Belfast Zoo thanks ‘Zooper’ Vicky

Belfast Zoo thanks ‘Zooper’ Vicky

08 February 2010

Volunteer Vicky Moore, has been recognised by the Friends of Belfast Zoo

Volunteer Vicky Moore, has been recognised by the Friends of Belfast Zoo for her contribution over the past 12 years. She has received a behind-the-scenes tour of the tiger enclosure and a framed certificate.

Vicky, who is 63 years old, has fond memories of coming to the old zoo site from her childhood and has witnessed the great change and progress the zoo has made in recent years. Vicky volunteered out of her passion for animals and because she wanted to give something back to the community. Vicky’s favourite animal is the tiger, and she has been awarded a lifetime sponsorship of tigers at the zoo. With the recent arrival of Sumatran tiger, Kabus to Belfast Zoo, the decision was made to offer Vicky a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the resident as a special ‘thank you’ for all her hard work over the years. Vicky had the chance to see the indoor house for Kabus, and to learn a little bit more about the feisty new addition.

The Friends of the Zoo is a voluntary organisation that supports the work of the zoo  through fundraising for special projects, helping with maintenance of enclosures, helping with events and encouraging children to learn about animals through Kids Club. Volunteer co-ordinator Helen Curtis, commented “Volunteers like Vicky and her family are hard to come by. They are dedicated to the zoo and always go the extra mile. It is encouraging to see that Vicky’s passion for the zoo hasn’t faded over the years, and that she has been instrumental in promoting volunteering for older people.”
