Befriending, Social Activities andTransport provide support mechanisms which enable older people get out and about, make new friends, keep vital medical appointments and feel safer in their own homes. There is an increasing demand for new volunteers to help out and just a few hours of time each week can make a significant difference. For further information contact frank@vsb.org.uk

"Transport Buddy" pilots are running in both North and West Belfast and the Ards Pennisula. The aim is to help isolated older persons to get out and about using both public and community forms of transport where appropriate. VSB will provide information and support on journey planning, social activities and the opportunity to have a "Transport Buddy" who will support an older person on a one to one basis and accompany them on journeys to the point where they can travel independently. The service is open to both men and women with a particular emphasis on older men. VSB is also keen to hear from potential volunteers who would be interested in becoming a "Transport Buddy". This would involve a couple of hour’s commitment per week at most and all travel expenses will be provided.
